Haitian journalist working for a Montreal online radio station killed
John Wesley Amady, a 32-year-old journalist working in Haiti for the Montreal online radio station Radio Écoute FM, was shot and killed on Jan. 6, 2022.
Amady may have been about to interview the leader of an armed gang in Laboule 12 near Port-au-Prince, according to local accounts, when he and two other journalists were attacked, reportedly by a rival gang. One of the other journalists was also killed in the incident and the other escaped.
Radio Écoute FM is based in Montreal but has a studio and six employees in Port-au-Prince.
Reporters Without Borders condemned the attack, calling on Haitian authorities to “conduct an exemplary and exhaustive investigation.”
