An RCMP officer falsely claimed in an affidavit that journalist Brandi Morin had lied to police while on assignment covering protests at Fairy Creek.

Toronto Police detained and confiscated the equipment of photojournalist Ian Willms while he was covering the eviction of people living in an encampment in Trinity Bellwoods Park.

The RCMP arrested and removed a protester during demonstrations against old-growth logging in the forest near Fairy Creek, B.C., after telling journalists to leave the area and that enforcement had ended for the day.

RCMP delayed press entry to a protest site near Port Renfrew, B.C. on May 26, 2021, where media later learned that officers were arresting protesters. 

BC RCMP officers threatened to arrest media workers including Global News journalist Paul Johnson, and denied them access to an area where police expected to arrest people protesting old-growth logging on southern Vancouver Island.

A last-minute notice from the RCMP on changes to where enforcement of the Fairy Creek protests was being carried out prevented effective media coverage on May 25, 2021. 

RCMP held Ricochet Media reporter Kyle Darling at a checkpoint on May 22, 2021, “preventing him from covering events,” tweeted Ricochet Media.
