Sameer Kaushal, a journalist and news director at Sher E Punjab Radio, was harassed and assaulted by protesters outside an event held by the Indian high commissioner in Surrey, B.C.

Protesters opposed to Indian government policies in Punjab had blocked the entrance to the event. Kaushal told Global News that he approached the protesters and asked if he could enter the event, which they refused. When he identified himself as a journalist and asked to interview the protesters, he said a group of people surrounded him and began yelling, swearing and pushing him.

Surrey RCMP officers pulled Kaushal out of the crowd. A video shared by Kaushal shows officers escorting him away as protesters yell. Police then told him that he should leave the area and gave him a ride to his car, Kaushal told Times Now.
