Israeli government includes Canadian journalist on list of “antisemitic generators and influencers”
The Israeli government’s Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism included Toronto-based journalist Samira Mohyeddin on a list of “antisemitic generators and influencers in Canada.”
Mohyeddin is the editor and founder of media company On the Line, and a former CBC producer. She has reported extensively on the war in Gaza, and is active on social media, where she regularly shares her reporting and updates on the war. She has been critical of Israeli policy in the region and its conduct of in Gaza.
Mohyeddin is one of four individuals listed in the document, which was published on Oct. 14, 2024 on an Israeli government website. The document includes a photo of her and screenshots of her social media posts. In the document, the Ministry claims that Mohyeddin “promotes anti-Zionist and antisemitic content on her platforms, particularly in reference to Israel’s alleged genocidal intentions.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) acknowledging the list, Mohyeddin wrote: “Israel’s not only killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, they’ve also made a mockery of antisemitism.”
The report was quoted in Israeli media – including by Ynet, which republished the ministry’s accusation verbatim – and in Canadian media, including True North and the National Post (the latter did not name Mohyeddin).
“I do feel quite unsafe, particularly now that the Israeli government has gone ahead and put me on this list,” Mohyeddin told the Canada Press Freedom Project.
She previously told the Toronto Star that she has been receiving “an enormous amount” of death threats and other threats of violence. In a separate incident in October, a restaurant owned by Mohyeddin’s family in Toronto was vandalized weeks after it was identified in a social media post from an Ontario MPP.
