Rama First Nation police officer investigated over alleged threat to APTN journalist

The Rama First Nation police service is investigating an officer for her emails to an APTN journalist who had covered her partner’s alleged assault of a person in custody. 

SPVM denies access to Ricochet journalist, physically attempts to remove

A Montreal police officer grabbed and dragged Ricochet Media’sjournalist Ethan Cox while denying him access to a designated media area near a building fire, the publication editor and journalist said. 

Twitter withholds Canada-based Sikh media after Indian government request

In response to a request from the Indian government, Twitter (currently called X) prevented users in India from viewing the account of Canadian media organization Baaz News, which covers the global Sikh and Punjabi diaspora. 

Edmonton Police Service refuse to answer questions at press conference

During a press conference at Edmonton Police Service headquarters, city police officers told Duncan Kinney, editor of The Progress Report, that he would not be able to ask questions and would be asked to leave if he “create(d) a scene.” 

New Brunswick RCMP threaten Telegraph-Journal reporter with arrest

RCMP officers prevented a journalist with the Telegraph-Journal from photographing a house fire on the Kingston Peninsula in N.B and said the journalist could be arrested. 

MP Pierre Poilievre posts tweet calling Global News a “Liberal mouthpiece” 

Pierre Poilievre, then a federal Conservative Party leadership candidate, tweeted a statement describing Global News as a “Liberal mouthpiece,” in response to questions from Global News journalist Rachel Gilmore.

A Vancouver School Board policy adopted in May 2022 appears to restrict some of the activities of student newspapers in the district. 

Russian ‘fake news’ law forces international media organizations to stop reporting

Media organizations including the CBC, BBC, CNN and Bloomberg were forced to pause reporting in Russia after a new law threatened to jail anyone publishing what the government described as “false information” about the war in Ukraine. 

Edmonton police revoke press credentials of The Progress Report

The Edmonton Police Service refused to give The Progress Report access to an online press conference on Feb. 24, 2022 and later revoked the publication’s press credentials. 

Police threaten to arrest Global News journalist

Police officers in Ottawa told Global News journalist Mercedes Stephenson to leave an area near Parliament Hill and threatened to arrest her.
