Submit incidents of online threats

 

The Canada Press Freedom Project collects and provides data about the nature and prevalence of press freedom violations against media workers across 12 categories, including online threats.

WHY SUBMIT INCIDENTS TO THE CPFP?

 

We thank you for taking the time to share your experience of online violence. By contributing to our database of press freedom violations, you are helping to increase professional and public knowledge about a critically understudied and underserviced workplace safety issue faced by media workers in Canada, and risks to the public’s right to know.

Not everyone is comfortable or willing to report threats to their employers, to colleagues or to law enforcement. The CPFP is an independent body where your experience can be counted without attribution, with data going toward a collective and industry-wide understanding of the scope and nature of online violence in the context of Canadian press freedom conditions.

CONTENT WARNING AND USING A DESIGNEE:

 

This form will request information about the content and nature of the harmful communication received and what followed. Please note that the first page (1 of 3) of this form is identified as required and the remaining are optional.

We do require names of individuals who have received threats to ensure we can verify information. You may designate someone to submit an incident on your behalf. Designees may only submit incidents on someone’s behalf with their express consent. For more information about how data is presented, read more about our online threat methodology. In some cases, including if this is your first time submitting an incident to the CPFP, you may be contacted to help us verify or collect additional information.
